Features

Upper

  • Asymmetrical Upper with star-lacing, offering more flexibility where the foot needs it.
  • The fabric is strong and provides a soft feeling around the foot for a secure fit.
  • There is space, which allows comfort for a wider fit, complying with On's standards.

Midsole

  • Dual Cloudtec layers technology, giving the maximum cushion due to its two layers of Helion foam.
  • The higher density foam underneath the arch area provides very gentle support for overpronation.
  • Thanks to the Speedboard technology in the midsole, the pressure is distributed equally in your landing phase. This makes it a perfect running shoe for a midfoot striker who seeks something responsive, lightweight, supportive and cushioned for long distance.

Outersole

  • Wide base provides extra stability, avoiding rolling off the side of the shoe. Instead of having the classical central channel, Cloudstratus has a single forefoot platform, allowing the distribution of balance for a more comfortable forefoot landing.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Firmer cushion
  • Extra stability
  • Generous fit (slightly wider in comparison with other models within the same brand)
  • Customisable lacing system
  • Two layers of Clouds for high level of cushion designed for everyday training or long distances

Cons

  • Responsive cushioning may be too much for those not used to the plush feel.
  • Flatter grip not suitable for all surfaces

In Testing

The shoes are perfect for road and suitable for all sort of distances. I used them not only for running but also for cycling and gym workouts. They're always comfortable and ready to give me the support I need. I have broader feet but not exactly wide; I appreciate the fact that this model is slightly wider, but still feels lightweight and features a lower heel drop. I would recommend it to all runners like me who prefer to feel the contact with the ground and have a firmer cushioning.

Verdict

Perfect for those who are looking not only for a running trainer, but also for an everyday walking shoe – without sacrificing a smart look. Some of the On designs can be quite narrow fitting. If you have broader feet and would like to try the On Cloudstratus, I think you'll be glad you did.
