  • Really soft cushioning, great if you’re tired but still want to run some more miles
  • Improved rubber outsole – longer lasting than the previous version

  • I love this shoe, but I’m wearing it on low-paced, long-distance runs only. For a more responsive and faster experience I’m using Hoka Mach 4.

In Testing

I’ve got different pairs of running shoes which I’m using based on the type of terrain and distance. (Sometimes, also based on my mood, day of the week and colour of my clothes but let’s not go there.)

Hoka Clifton 8 is my go-to choice for long, low-paced road runs. I land on my midfoot, so the majority of cushioned running shoes don’t work for me long-distance because they’re too built up under the heel. However, Clifton 8 thanks to its low heel-to-toe off set (5mm drop) does wonders for me. Lots of cushioning that I need on my long runs, yet still extremely lightweight and easy to land on a midfoot.

True, I find it a bit too slow for a short run, especially when I prefer something more responsive, but hey – check my review of Hoka Mach 4, which is perfect for my fast tempo runs.

Clifton 8 feels seamless on your feet, providing padding around your heel and arch, thanks to a comfortable, plush tongue. It’s just a very comfy shoe.

The slightly wider base than previous version makes it feel more stable. However, the upper fits quite snugly. That’s why we also have them in a wider fit. If your feet like more space in a shoe, try the Clifton 8 Wide (see below).

Fantastic option for a long, slow run on a hard surface. Makes it easy to land on the midfoot, while still providing the comfort and cushioning usually needed for a longer distance. Feels so light, you can barely feel it on your foot, yet is protective and stable. Excellent design!
