In Testing

If you're new to On shoes you will immediately feel how different they are compared to the competition. Light, flexible and fast. The Cloudflow 5 has had some new updates, and I'm here for it!

The size and fit for me was spot on, in that it resembled the previous model, although a shift in material for the upper, it look longer to break in. This didn't hinder my runs at all, my initial reaction to the lightweight feel made it more enjoyable.

I'm a fan of the responsiveness delivered by the improved speedboard that became more apparent during my longer runs. Like a sock or glove, you're not aware that you have something on your feet. Paired with CloudTec® cushioning and a Helion™ HF foam midsole, the ride feels effortlessly smooth – plush on landing and energetic on takeoff – making each stride feel naturally propulsive.

I'm a midfoot striker, so for me the amount of cushioning is perfect – very responsive, yet softer than its predecessor. I prefer something a bit more substantial for longer distances, but it's my go-to for recovery and shorter runs.

Verdict

Perfect shoes for a neutral runner going for speed and responsiveness. The Cloudflow 5 feels lighter than air – once you get used to them anything else seems to be just too heavy! Be careful, joining the ON gang might have a tremendous impact on your shoe selection from now on… ;-)
