The cushioning in the Kayano 29 is impressive; the new FFBlast+ is much softer and bouncier than its predecessor, especially at the front – making the shoes more friendly for forefoot runners. There is a very secure heel counter, however the LiteTruss support is less structured. The Kayano is not as stable as it used to be; it is definitely less rigid, lighter and softer under the arch. Despite this, the updated rolling style outsole feels more responsive. It also offers a smoother and easier heel-to-toe transition, unlike the previous version that felt closer to the ground with a snappier sensation.
Having worked for Asics in the past might make my opinion a bit biased. I ran in Asics for over 10 years, so I am really fond of the brand. However, as I am not a long distance runner, my preference are lighter and more minimalistic shoes.
But if you are looking for high cushioning, plush, maximum protection for impact with a moderate support the new Asics Gel Kayano 29 is definitely an option to be considered.
