What's the difference with a specialist running top?
A good-quality running T-shirt or vest can change your experience and overall performance. It keeps you dry, fresh and chafe-free. A regular cotton top won't stand up to high-intensity activity because of its lack of moisture-management and low breathability. Sweat is captured in it, which causes bacterial growth, a bad smell and rubbing against your skin.
A 'technical fabric' wicks moisture away from your skin, is breathable, quick-drying and stretches to move with your body. It's not only the content of the fabric, but the construction of the fabric that gives it technical properties – for example zoned ventilation areas or odour-resistance.
Technical tops are made from fibres that are usually synthetic, or a blend of natural and synthetic. Polyester or nylon are common as a base. Some companies blend them with natural material like tencel, merino wool or linen for comfort and a cooling effect. Every year, more and more companies are starting to use recycled polyester for running gear production, which makes it a sustainable and eco-friendly choice.
