When I first put on the Salomon Ultra Glide 4, my immediate impression was how plush and cushioned they felt, while still remaining surprisingly lightweight and not overly bulky on the foot. Despite the high stack-height, they didn’t feel unstable or heavy – just soft and protective.
One of the main features that drew me to this shoe was the grip. The All-Terrain Contagrip® outsole uses a unique geometric lug pattern designed to improve stability across a variety of surfaces. This gave me the confidence to use it on mixed terrains outside. The platform of the shoe also feels very stable underfoot, which adds to the sense of control.
I was also particularly interested QuickLACE™ system, though I was slightly sceptical at first about how secure it would feel. After trying it, I can say I really like the convenience it offers. Being able to loosen or tighten the shoe quickly by pulling on the toggle is easy and simple, especially mid-run. Once secured, the shoe held my foot in place without any feelings of discomfort.
While running, I felt the Ultra Glide 4 kept my foot secure, and thanks to the generous amounts of foam underfoot I noticed minimal impact on my knees and joints. The cushioning helped absorb shock effectively, allowing me to run more comfortably over long distances without feeling overly fatigued.
Overall, I would use this shoe for long trail runs and even long walks or hikes. I would particularly recommend it to runners tackling longer distances – even ultras – who are looking for extra cushioning without sacrificing grip or stability.
The Salomon Ultra Glide 4 is a go-to choice for long trail runs, especially when conditions turn wet or muddy. It’s high stack-height and cushion provide comfort through every stride, helping you to run for longer without getting too tired. The soft yet responsive insole absorbs impact well, which is especially noticeable on uneven terrains.
