In Testing

I already own a pair of New Balance 860 for my road runs and given how comfortable those are, I was very excited to try a pair of New Balance for trail too.

On my very first run itself, the Hierro v9 felt as light and permeable as if I had nothing on, with the traction a perfect depth to be taken off-road into slightly muddier and hillier terrain.

The cushioning was soft and suprisingly stable, not overpowering – my landing remained quick and light, but was far more comfortable on the trail than it tends to be otherwise. The wide fit was secure and so was the outersole, which fared well despite coming into harsh contact with rocks and uneven track.

Verdict

A great balance for those wanting to experience a more off-road running experience without venturing too far away from their more usual road runs. Soft, stable and sustainable, New Balance’s Hierro v9 is a great choice if you’re looking for a new hybrid running shoe!
