How does online gait analysis work?

Discover our Gait Analysis service at home. Just send us some videos, photos and basic info via WhatsApp. Book your preferred time slot here when we will call you to complete your online gait analysis and take your order. Then in a few days' time your perfect running trainers will be delivered to your house, so you can enjoy the beauty and freedom of running or walking.

You will need:

  • Your current running or other fitness shoes (if none, then bare feet)
  • WhatsApp installed on your phone
  • A household member to film you (or you can do it yourself)

Please note: our trained staff spend considerable time on each personal consultation. We are more than happy to offer this service free of charge, but we kindly ask that you only make an appointment if you intend to make a purchase from Run and Become on the day, based on the advice offered.

STEP 1: RECORD TWO SHORT VIDEOS

  • Set the camera about 50cm off the ground.
  • If helped by a friend, we recommend kneeling down or squatting for better results.
  • Please wear shorts or tights to ensure that we can see your legs and ankles clearly.
  • Make sure that you're at the centre of the screen and the image is clear.
  • Watch the short demo videos to see the exercise and which part of the body needs to be in the shot.

VIDEO 1: BAREFOOT BENDING KNEES

  • Stand barefoot (no socks) facing the camera with feet hip-width apart, and relax your arms.
  • Slowly bend your knees as far as is comfortable, without raising your heels or pushing out your bottom.
  • Note: it's important to keep your upper body straight. Please avoid squatting and/or looking down.

Waist-to-Toe Shot:
Record 3 times from the front and 3 times from behind.

Whole Body Shot:
Use a wider angle to show from head to foot.

VIDEO 2: RUNNING / WALKING

  • Put on your current running shoes (or other fitness shoes).
  • Take a gentle, relaxed jog down the street for 15 metres and back again. Do this 2 times.
  • Please run / walk on a flat, hard surface – road or pavement – so we can see the gait clearly.
  • During your run, try to get as close to the camera as you can, so we can see the movement of your body properly.

STEP 2: SHOW US YOUR SHOES

Take three different photos of the shoes you ran / walked in during the video test above.

We need photos of the shoe from three different angles, like in the pictures...

We need photos of the shoe from three different angles, like in the pictures below:

  1. Shoe profile (inner side)
  2. Shoe profile (outer side)
  3. Shoe soles

STEP 3: MEASURE YOUR FEET (OPTIONAL)

If you don't know your running shoe size, we can help you figure it out:

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with the full weight of your body going through one foot.
  2. Draw around that foot, then repeat for the other foot.
Foot Measurement
  1. Measure the distance between the big toe and heel of each foot in centimetres.
  2. Please send us measurements of each foot, backed up by pictures of each foot like this one...

Why online gait analysis?

Run and Become has been offering Natural Gait Analysis in-store for decades. This involves discussing your running with you and any injuries, plus having a close look at your feet. We then suggest the type of running shoes we think would be best for you, and watch you run outside the store, so we can see how your whole body moves in them.

In 2020 we moved this service online for those unable to reach our store (and times when our store was forced to close due to Covid-19 restrictions). Although the store is now open, we continue to offer it as a second-best option, for those unable to come and see us in person.

FAQs

What if I have no fitness shoes?
Please do the same but indoors, down a hallway barefoot.

I'm not a runner. I will use my trainers only for walking. Do I still need to take the video?
Yes please, take a video walking rather than running.

I want to use my trainers both for walking and for running.
Ideally take two videos: walking and running.
