FR 110 is the second smallest watch in the Garmin GPS range. The smallest one is the new FR10 which, unlike FR110, is not compatible with a heart rate monitor and the battery life in training mode is 5 hours instead of 8 hours.

The sleek design of FR110 features a three line display and the watch functions have been simplified to make it a more intuitive easy-to-use watch.

This version comes with a heart rate monitor (chest strap) that transmits information to the watch so you get a read out of your effort level (heart rate zone) to help you train at the right intensity.

What it will do:

The Forerunner 110 has a high-sensitivity GPS unit that gives accurate speed/pace and distance data while you run. Garmin's new "Hotfix" technology gets the watch connected to the satellites quickly - a real improvement on earlier generations of GPS that could take a while to get logged on.

The unit is rechargeable and has a battery life of 8 hours when exercising (or up to two weeks if it is in "sleep mode" just showing the time of day). The unit is robust and waterproof to IPX7 standard.

The Forerunner 110 can be connected to a computer (PC or MAC)  after training to upload information to the Garmin Connect web site - here you can see a breakdown of your performance including maps of your run route and details of how your heart rate varied while training.

The 110 does not have all the features of more elaborate Garmin watches, for example Virtual Partner, OS map references, interval training, multisport workouts, auto pause and auto scroll. This unit is not compatible with the Garmin footpod (for indoor use when GPS cannot be used) or speed/cadence sensor for bikes (though the GPS functions do give accurate cycling speed & distance).
