Merthyr Mawr Christmas Pudding 10k 2012

The Merthyr Mawr Christmas Pudding 10k is one of the best seasonal races which Run and Become proudly sponsors. The race has grown over the years, with this year over 700 runners.

It starts with a race up the tallest sand dune in Europe and finishes running through a river, with various other challenges along the way. To add to the fun, many wear fancy dress. The atmosphere is full of festive cheer, and mince pies and mulled wine await along the course. A very merry way to race. Running conditions were perfect - crisp, fresh, and not to cold plus no rain. It was great to see so many customers of Run and Become and everyone looked like they were having a good time. Our own Sophie ran it for the first time and really enjoyed it.

Many thanks to Brackla Harriers for organising the race. Merry Christmas to all!

Sophie's Race Report:

Sophie KingA beautiful cold, crisp and sunny morning greeted me on the day of the race, which I was very thankful for, as the previous days had been torrential rain! Upon arrival, I collected my number and proceeded to the start, where everyone was tightly huddled together at the bottom of the giant sand dune. There was a good vibe and a feeling of festive cheer, with many people wearing various Christmas costumes and hats.

This was my first time doing the pudding race, and running up the first sand dune really took it out of me! So I was glad there was a bit of a wait after it, as the course bottlenecked into a snaking, sandy descent!

The course was multi-terrain, consisting of sand dunes, hills, streams, road and lots of mud!. It was a really fun event to take part in, I loved running through the squishy mud and jumping into streams. My favourite part had to be enjoying a glass of mulled wine at the top of a very steep hill, before starting my sandy descent. I will definitely be doing it again next year and I really recommend it to help you get in the festive mood!
