Previously part of the UK-wide Women's Running Network (WRN), operating for about 5 years under their umbrella. When WRN went into administration in March 2011 their affiliation automatically ceased. They were keen to preserve the tradition of a women-only running club in Penarth and have established the new club to continue to support women of all abilities and ages to combine fitness with fun.
They are a group of like-minded women, who offer a wide range of groups from absolute beginners with no previous experience through to half marathon training, for all ages. Their members find that running in a group provides the motivation we all sometimes need to get us 'up and out'. The sessions are an hour long and run both in the evenings and the day time, making it easy to fit in with today's busy lifestyles. Getting to know fellow club members is also an important part of their philosophy. When they're running round the Lakes or the Marina, conversation can be fairly limited so as well as taking part in events together such as the 'Race for Life', they organise social events in the winter and summer, giving you the chance to get out of your running kit and relax for a few hours.
They are based in Penarth, but welcome members from across the region.
Women Running Penarth is affiliated to the Welsh Athletics Association and are fully insured. The membership fees cover public liability insurance and a club vest.
If you're interested in combining some fitness activity in a safe and nurturing environment with widening your social network and perhaps achieving some personal goals on the way then you're in the right place.
We run all year round to help members maintain their fitness throughout the seasons and our location means that we run in a constantly changing and interesting environment. We enjoy the tranquility of Cosmeston Lakes or the coastal views at Sully Island in the summer and in the winter. We've been spotted counting the Christmas trees around the beautifully lit Penarth Marina.
