Off Road Shoes
Trail and multi-terrain shoes are designed for a mixture of different surfaces. Trail shoes cover towpaths, parks, trails obviously and any off road surface which is fairly flat and firm. Multi-Terrain shoes are suitable for slightly rougher ground: more mud, more inclines and rockier surfaces. Each shoe has a summary which will help you decide what is right for you. All are available in half sizes, and the sizes listed are all UK sizes.

Fell Shoes
Fell shoes are designed for serious off-road running ; ideal for cross country, hill racing and training on the hills and soft muddy trails. All available in half sizes, all have a deep studded sole to give excellent grip. Like racers and spikes they have a snug fitting upper and are sized a little smaller than road shoes, so you may need a half size bigger then your road shoes. A little tip: the number after the name of any Inov-8 shoe (makers of excellent fell and off road shoes) relates to the weight of the shoe in grams. The shoes can be used for short road or hard trail sections, but if used extensively on hard surfaces the studs will wear down quicker. Top Tips page – Kit Fit For The Fell.

Spikes
Spikes fall into three catagories: middle & long distance, sprint, and cross country. Sprint spikes can be used up to 400m, above that you need middle/long distance spikes, these are suitable for all distance events and interval/repetition based track training, most are also suitable for cross country, unless otherwise stated, but will need a longer spike to give better grip. Specialist cross country spikes differ from track spikes in that they have: a more rugged outsole for better grip a flexible spike plate gives a better footstrike on rough ground and prevents a spike plate from shattering on sharp stones, a slightly more durable, and in some cases water resistant, upper to cope with the challenges of the best of traditional British cross country courses. For further advice on choosing spikes please refer to our Top Tips page. All are available in half sizes, and the sizes listed are all UK sizes.

Clothing
WARM WEATHER: generally means you just need a decent moisture wicking tee or singlet and a pair of shorts – lycra, racing cut or baggy – depending on your preferrance. All our tops are moisture wicking, fast drying and as chaff free as possible, and if you’ve never run in anything other than cotton, we encourage you to give one of our tops a go, you’ll never look back! They are lighter and more comfortable; the moisture wicking aspect means no more heavy wet tees and no more chilly sensations from a damp top sitting next to your skin. The lycra shorts are all snug fitting, as to be expected, and the rest of the shorts are very light and soft, and they all have inners.

COLD WEATHER: there are a lot more options here: tights, loose trousers, thermals, long sleeve light weight tops, jackets –windproof, waterproof, strongly water resistant – choosing the correct garment depends on how cold you get and how old / wet your surroundings tend to be. However, all the garments are moisture wicking and designed to be comfortable for any distance of running.
