Cardif Bay Barrage

This has recently opened up to runners and walkers (it still closes at night - check with the council for opening times). Loops around the bay are now possible, running across the barrage with the sea on one side and the enclosed lake of Cardiff Bay on the other - great views, and a nice flat route!

Cosmeston Lakes

Just a few miles from Cardiff, the woodland and lakeside paths at Cosmeston are great for quiet, scenic runs. You can run out there from Cardiff or just do a circuit of the lakes - there are some suggested walking/running routes at:

Roath Park

Taff Trail

Popular for marathon training, this well surfaced trail offers traffic-free running from Cardiff right up to Brecon.

The Garth

Our nearest "mountain" and the obvious place to head for if you are wanting to taste fell running (without going anywhere too challenging or remote). A race is held here every April (The Pentyrch Hill Race) and on a clear day the easily reached summit offers awesome views over Cardiff. You can park at the foot of the hill (picnic site marked on the map) or even run out to The Garth from Cardiff using the Taff Trail.
